Nothing Asked of Me
Today, nothing asked too much of me.
The weight on my eyelids
felt a little lighter because of it.
Joy crept in
like a crack in the window—
small, steady,
not overwhelming.
A content little one,
a nap that surprised my heart.
Food that left me full.
Tea made with care.
A break in the fog of living—
unexpected.
I did more today
because nothing was asked of me.
It felt like freedom.
Smiles were worn,
carefully,
but they stayed.
~~~~Authors note ~~~~
postpartum has been so hard. Im not who I normally am sleep deprived, touched out, etc. but I felt a moment of peace that wasn’t there before. When things in life are constantly asking and taking it is almost surprising when things go well. Every time I read this poem over I want to hug myself. There are more days like this ahead.
